Blood (connective tissue with a liquid matrix called plasma) and lymph are specialized tissues of the body. Both are composed of cells suspended in a liquid medium and both play a vital role in defending the body against infection. Because blood and lymph have the ability to move throught the entire body, they provide a transportation for body cells.
The lymphatic system consists of a fluid called lymph and a network of transporting structures called lymph vessels, lymph nodes, the spleen, thymus and tonsils.
