Example:  Type Fluids, Electrolytes in this box and press enter.
Electrolytes are important because they are what your nerve and heart muscle cells use to maintain voltages across their membranes. They carry electrical impulses to other cells. When you exercise heavily, you lose electrolytes sodium and potassium when you sweat. These electrolytes must be replaced to keep the electrolyte concentrations constant. Many sports drinks have sodium or potassium chloride added to them. They also have sugar and flavorings to provide your body with extra energy.

Electrolyte drinks are important for infants &children with chronic vomiting or diarrhea, perhaps due to intestinal flu viruses. When children vomit or have diarrhea, they lose electrolytes. These electrolytes and fluids must be replaced to prevent dehydration and possible seizures. Drinks such as Pedialyte have sodium and potassium in them like the sports drinks do.
